Tom Abbiss Smith: Creative Response: Beauty

Meet Tom Abbiss Smith…

What a visual treat… To meander through the textures and organic forms, created by the hand of Tom Abbiss Smith. His work seems to hint at details in Nature that are often overlooked by the naked eye, and give us the feeling that we’re being invited into a hidden world.

We love Tom’s playful layered collage style, and use of colour, so we were stoked to hear that he was keen to respond creatively to ‘Beauty’ — one of the five pathways to Nature connection.

Enjoy Tom’s reflections on Nature and creativity below… We hope you find his work as inspiring as we do. May it challenge you to see the world through a new lens, and catapult you deeper into your own Nature connection journey.

“Throughout my childhood, I loved playing in the woodlands and was always intrigued by animals and plants and those joys of discovering new leaves or stumbling accidentally into new landscapes is what part of my work is about now — exploring, having fun, being spontaneous, and following new ideas!”

“When I create illustrations depicting Nature’s beauty, I tend to work in an intuitive abstract style and enjoy exploring the vast array of colours, organic forms, and patterns I observe. I invite the viewer to fill the visual breathing space I’ve left within my designs with their imagination and hope it sparks a new awareness of the beauty of Nature.”
