ReWild Yourself Community Programme
We’re growing more than just trees
Our ReWild Yourself Community Hubs initiative is about more than just creating new urban forests and green spaces for communities in three UK cities (find out more). In terms of the positive impacts it can have, research shows us that the way we think and feel about Nature is just as important as spending time in Nature.
It’s about meaningful moments in Nature, not just minutes in Nature.
That’s why we are also creating a ReWild Yourself Community Programme and workshop series to run in each of the cities we plant forests. Alongside trees, we want to grow stronger connections between individuals, community and Nature, improving people and planet’s health and wellbeing.
Eco-therapy for those who need it most
By working with adolescents, we look to address the reported “Teenage Dip” in Nature Connection, as well as improve participant’s wellbeing (e.g. better emotional regulation, decreased stress, improved pro-social behaviour) during a difficult and formative period in their life.
In each city we will also work with partners to identify groups of adults that are either ‘at risk’ or would benefit most from nature-based interventions to improve their health and wellbeing, and tailor our workshop programme to maximise impact for each group.
A ‘Nature Well’ approach
NatureWell is an accredited, evidence-informed model developed by Natural Academy to support health, wellbeing, and ecological care through structured, nature-based interventions. Find out more on the Natural Academy website. The model has been tested across NHS Trusts, social prescribing schemes, and community settings, providing a replicable framework.
Training local facilitators
We will train eight individuals local to each of our three RWY Hubs, to become our workshop facilitators and run the ReWild Community Programme in each city. Each facilitator will receive training from Natural Academy in the Nature Well approach, with support from a lead facilitator, creating a new community of nature connector practitioners in each city.
